Real Stories from Photographers Who’ve Been There

Why This Isn’t Just Another Safari

Most safaris?

You sit in a Jeep. Watch from a distance. Snap a few shots through the dust.

This one?
It’s a safari – but not as you know it.
Because this time, you’re on foot.
Deep in the rainforest. Shrouded in mist.
Tracking mountain gorillas through their world.

Eye to eye with 200 kilograms of raw muscle, silent strength, and intelligence..

You don’t just get close.
You connect.
You create.
And you remember exactly why you fell in love with photography in the first place.

Uganda Gorilla Safari Tour Itinerary

Welcome to Uganda

Arrive in Entebbe and begin your luxury Uganda gorilla safari adventure.

You’ll be greeted at Entebbe International Airport and transferred to your hotel for a calm and comfortable start. After settling in, soak up the warm air and vibrant atmosphere before joining your fellow travellers and hosts for a welcome dinner.

It’s the perfect way to ease into the journey, connect with the group, and feel the excitement begin to build.
(Dinner included)

Safari & Sunset on Lake Mburo

Capture your first wildlife encounters and iconic landscapes as your Uganda gorilla safari begins in earnest.

After breakfast, we travel to Lake Mburo National Park, with a memorable stop at the equator — an ideal spot to take an iconic photo marking the start of your journey. As the road winds through ever-changing terrain, you’ll enjoy striking landscapes and photographic moments throughout the drive.

Upon arrival at Kigambira Safari Lodge, take time to relax before embarking on a magical evening boat ride across the lake. Photograph hippos, Nile crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife as the setting sun casts golden light over the water — a stunning first chapter in your photographic adventure.
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included)

From Savannah to the Highlands

Photograph dawn on the savanna before continuing your Uganda gorilla safari through the highlands.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive, capturing the last moments of nocturnal wildlife before they vanish into the golden light. As the sun rises over the savanna, you’ll experience a quieter, more intimate side of the wild.

Later, we travel south toward the serene beauty of Lake Bunyonyi, known as “The Place of Many Little Birds.” Framed by rolling hills and dotted with 29 emerald islands, it’s a dreamlike setting for photography and peaceful reflection.

Tonight, unwind at Arcadia Cottages, nestled above the lake’s tranquil waters.
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included)

Into the Heart of Bwindi

Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest — the soul of your Uganda gorilla safari experience.

The day begins with a tranquil canoe ride across the mist-veiled waters of Lake Bunyonyi. As you glide past emerald islands and glimpse distant volcanoes reflected on the surface, the stillness becomes a canvas — ideal for creating peaceful, emotionally rich imagery.

From there, we journey deep into the legendary Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sanctuary for nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. With steep, ancient slopes and lush jungle trails, it feels like stepping into another world.

In the afternoon, unwind at Mahogany Springs Lodge and join Tim Flach for an exclusive talk and Q&A — a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s most celebrated visual storytellers.
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included)

Gorilla Trekking on the Uganda Safari

Track and photograph wild mountain gorillas with expert guidance from Tim Flach.

Today marks the pinnacle of your Uganda gorilla safari.

At first light, we set out on a guided trek through the ancient forests of Bwindi, stepping into a mist-laced world alive with sound and anticipation. With every footstep, the forest draws you deeper — and then, suddenly, they appear.

Juvenile gorillas tumble through the undergrowth as the silverback watches over his family with quiet authority. The hour you spend in their presence is nothing short of profound — a photographer’s dream, and a once-in-a-lifetime privilege.

Return to Mahogany Springs for rest, reflection, and the lingering awe of an unforgettable encounter.
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included)

Tree-Climbing Lions & Big Game

Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park’s iconic Ishasha sector on this unforgettable leg of your Uganda gorilla safari.

This morning, we set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park, heading straight into the legendary Ishasha sector — home to the elusive tree-climbing lions. As we travel south, Uganda’s landscapes shift dramatically — from rolling highlands to vast, open plains — revealing a continuous stream of powerful photographic opportunities.

Our full-day game drive unveils an extraordinary cast of wildlife: elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and a dazzling array of birdlife. Whether it’s a lion lounging on the limb of an acacia tree or a lone elephant silhouetted against the fading light, each scene offers a story waiting to be told through your lens.

By evening, we arrive at Ishasha Wilderness Camp, nestled deep in the heart of the wild. As stars scatter overhead and the sounds of the savanna come alive, you’ll wind down beneath the African sky — the perfect close to an epic day of adventure.
(Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included)

Farewell to the Forest

Fly back to Entebbe with a heart full of memories and a portfolio to match.

After an early breakfast, we depart for Kihihi Airstrip and board a scenic flight back to Entebbe. From the sky, take in sweeping views of Uganda’s savannas, misty forests, and winding rivers — your final glimpse of the wild landscapes that have shaped this extraordinary journey.

On arrival in Entebbe, you’ll be transferred to the international airport for your flight home. As your safari comes to a close, you leave not just with remarkable images, but with new skills, friendships, and the memory of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that will stay with you forever.
(Breakfast included)

Fitness, Support & What You Need to Know

You don’t need to be in peak condition - but a moderate level of fitness is recommended. The treks can involve uneven terrain, forested slopes, and humid conditions, but they’re taken at a manageable pace with regular breaks.

To make the experience easier, porters are available to carry your camera gear, allowing you to focus fully on the trek and capturing unforgettable images. Most guests find the challenge well worth the reward - that moment face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is truly life-changing.

Recommended Equipment for the Uganda Gorilla Safari

All experience levels are welcome - from passionate beginners to seasoned pros. Our expert mentors will be there throughout the tour to assist with camera settings, creative advice, and personalised guidance.

To make the most of this unique expedition, we recommend bringing a DSLR or mirrorless camera along with a selection of lenses.

Recommended Gear:

  • Telephoto Lens (300–400mm minimum): Essential for capturing distant wildlife like gorillas in forested environments.

  • Wide-Angle Lens: Perfect for sweeping landscapes and immersive environmental portraits.

  • Extra Memory Cards & Batteries: Essential for backup - you won’t want to miss a moment.

  • Waterproof Camera Bag: Keeps your gear safe from rain, humidity, and dust in the jungle.

Flight Information

International flights are not included in the tour price - you’ll need to book your own return flights to Entebbe. However, all internal flights within Uganda are fully included as part of your safari package, ensuring smooth, comfortable travel between destinations.

 Yes, non-photographers are welcome.

They will enjoy the same incredible wildlife encounters, luxury accommodations, and immersive experiences.

However, please note that this is a photography-focused tour, with daily activities tailored around capturing images and receiving mentorship. While non-shooters will still find the journey breathtaking, the itinerary is designed with photographers in mind.
